Well…it was an interesting Labor Day weekend. As you may have known from my previous posts over at Naughty and Spice, my computer was on its last legs and I was debating which new one to get. I’d been backing up some of my work, getting ready to transfer it to a new computer once I got it. Well…yesterday fate forced my hand. Or my daughter did. While I took a bath, my daughter spilled water on my laptop. By the time I got to it my monitor had pretty green and white stripes. And then a second later the computer just died.
Now, I went screaming to the Romance Divas for advice, but unfortunately before they could reply I decided to try and fiddle with my laptop myself. I kept trying to turn it on. Again and again. After I read the Diva advice, I learned that maybe letting it dry out and not touching it for two weeks could have saved it. I see a call to the Geek Squad (or similar folks) in my future because… the eek news…I hadn’t backed up everything on my hard drive. I backed up a good amount of my books/writing…but not all. And I backed up nothing besides my books. Nothing. Let this be a wake up call for all you folks like me…in denial that it won’t happen. That you have time to back it up. You don’t always! Now I will self flog
The good news was I’d been writing a ton on the Sexy Beast book (almost half way done!) and I’d emailed myself the newest version about 3 hours before the computer went kaput. So I only lost a tiny bit.
I keep getting the urge to hit the power button on the laptop, see if maybe this time will be different. Then I talk myself out of it.
Oh wait! There’s more good news
There’s a new laptop in the house! I immediately went out and bought a Macbook! I’m a Mac virgin, so I have to say the first 24 hours have been very
How come nobody told me there’d be no right click!? I’m sure it gets better…I’ve been told it does.
So that’s my weekend in a nutshell. Oh, and I threw out my back and painted my daughter’s room bright pink. Not sure if the first was an effect of the latter

I’ve been working on a Mac since the mid-1980s, so when I first had to deal with a right-click button on a PC, I was really confused. And everytime I deal with a Windows machine, it confuses me still! You’ll get used to the MacBook, I promise. And you’ll wonder why you ever did Windows.
I hope so, Eilis. I’m so frustrated right now I’m considering taking it back. But everyone swears it gets better.
wow sounds like an interesting weekend….I am sorry about your laptop. If you want we can have a funneral for it! Hope the mac gets easier!! *hugs* Don’t ya love kids??
Hey Shelli,
I plan on making the switch to a Mac in 2009. I loathe Windows Vista and MS Office 2007. I’ve been told the Mac OS X is a great operating system, and my only concern is how Apple’s Pages compares to MS Word for writing. Have you had any problems formatting your work in Pages or are you using Microsoft Word for Mac?
Hi Elizabeth! Yes, a funeral for my laptop sounds grand…though I still may try and turn it on!
HI Michelle, I got Word for Mac. I can’t leave it :)
