So my phone has been ringing OFF THE HOOK all day. Am I popular? No. Well, maybe. With recorded campaign messages. See, today is the Caucuses for Washington State. And it’s literally call after call. Mostly computerized, though I have to say I encountered a real person calling to remind me about the Obama Caucus just down the street. I’m not sure who was more surprised, me that the caller was real. Oh him, that I didn’t hang up on him and actually listened to his whole schpeel. Though I have to say overall… I’m still undecided.
I wrote 6 pages last night on my new novella. I’m having fun with it. It’s the second book in my three book novella antho. I’m hoping to whip this novella out in a few weeks (easily done if I stick to my 1k a day min. rule!) And I already know exactly what I’m doing with the third book. Yaaay!
The kid and I are off to visit Lacy and her kids this afternoon. Let the kids run wild while Lacy and I hang out for a bit. It’ll be good for all of us.
Come visit our guest blogger, Kensington author Kate Pearce, at Naughty and Spice. Her topic is a fun one. Just Gay Enough? ;)
So Amie Stuart sent me over to take a quiz today on personality types or something. Anyway, this is what I got. I can totally agree with some of them! :D
Type Seven
The Enthusiast
The busy, productive type. Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied.
Fortune cookie Thursday: You are wise to keep your eyes wide open at all times this week. WTF? That so wasn’t a fun perky one.
What I’m listening to:Just in Time, Frank Sinatra
So if you want, I’d love you to come by the Samhain blog where I posted a letter to Cupid. I have a bone to pick with that guy. (It’ll go up at 9am EST Thursday).
So I want to say congrats to my fellow chapter member Jane Porter whose book Flirting with Forty is being turned into a Lifetime movie. She just announced who will be playing the role of Jackie (her heroine!). Heather Locklear! How cool is that?! There’s an announcement you can read on Reuters. Go, Jane, go! I’m so excited for you!
As for me…hmm. No movie deals. Yet. Hee hee. I’m in the midst of editing/revising a novella that I’d like submit someday in the near future. I’m thinking it’ll likely be the first in a three book novella series. One big anthology of my own.
If you’re wondering what happened to my FABULOUS story idea that I couldn’t wait to get started on. Well, I still think it’s fabulous. And I wrote about 7 pages. I just need to think on it for a bit. Maybe bounce it off of some more people in the know and make sure it’s something that could sell. I’ll keep you posted.
So I’m still a little buried under hunting down agents/editors for the Emerald City Writers’ Conference, and helping with picking out speakers, but we’ve almost got our players picked so I’m just thrilled…and fortunately will have time to breathe again soon.
But for now, I HAD to share this video I just saw on the news. I’m terrified of heights so this just made me almost pass out. I had to close my eyes. It’s just a couple of minutes. Check it out. But don’t try it at home. OMG. These kids are STUPID. *Shudder*
I’m over at Naughty and Spice doing a dirty meme. Shelley Munro tagged me with it, so all the Naughty and Spice girls decided to do it this week. Come by and read about our naughty side.
I discovered another great review today for Dangerous Grounds from the Literary Nymphs. It was a really sweet review and moved me. So thank you, nymphs!!! Here’s a part of the review…
“Dangerous Games is another great story by author Shelli Stevens, so I’ll say up front that I loved it. The storyline is fast paced, and it’s filled with passion, sizzling hot sex, suspense, danger and a little intrigue… all things that make for a wonderful new addition to my keeper file…. There is nothing about this book that I didn’t like, and I eagerly await the next addition to the Seattle Steam series, Tempting Adam.” Rating: 5, Literary Nymphs
What I’m listening to:Forbidden Fruit, Nina Simone
Movie Quote Sunday. Today’s quote is from The Goonies. Love this movie. Love it.
Irene Walsh: Pants and shirts go in the… oh, forget about it. Just throw everything into cardboard boxes. Clark, can you really translate all that?
Mouth: For sure, Mrs. Walsh.
Mouth: [in Spanish] The marajuana goes in the top drawer. The cocaine and speed go in the second drawer. And the heroin goes in the bottom drawer. Always separate the drugs.

Well Saturday we had our chapter meeting, and before that the board meeting (including transferring the banking info from the old board to the new board). Friday I received an email that had me so excited I pretty much stayed up until almost one in the morning *bad Shelli*, and the kid woke me up before 7am. So it was a long day done on little sleep.
But the meeting was great! Pat White led us in a group critique, discussing how to critique someone without making them want to quit writing. We had three brave souls read their work aloud and get feedback from 25 or so women. Brave souls. A lot of fun, though!
One thing I realized as all three stories were read, everyone had different reactions to different stories. Some people would get really excited over one story, and another group of people over another. It was a big moment of clarity for me. Or more so, a reminder. This is probably exactly what happens when you send your work to agents/editors. What one person loves, might just be a lukewarm premise to another. So keep that in mind if you receive a rejection letter. It’s all subjective. You just didn’t hit the right person’s desk…
