How was everyone’s St. Patricks Day? Did you drink green beer or eat corned beef and cabbage? I did neither. I don’t eat beef, period. And beer is a luxury I indulge in a few times a year…including at Nationals! Which speaking of……

Wooo whooo!! Yes I’m obviously thrilled *doing a little dance* I emailed my gaurdian angel of writing Cherry Adair to let her know my book will be an RWA recognized sale, and she was just so supportive and thrilled for me. And she’s getting the biggest dedication in my book Dangerous Grounds. *Grin*
I am so close to finishing this sci fi. I know some of you are like: doesn’t she say that every day? But seriously, it keeps getting longer! I’m at 77k! I think I’m going to hit 80k in the end (because I stopped putting chapters in like 3/4 the way through the book!) I’ll finish this book tonight. Unless it decides to keep going. Depending on whether the hero and heroine decide to get it on again. Speaking of, I have a bit of a poll I’d love to get your feeback on!
I finished the second book in Pat White’s Blackwell Group series. Loved it. Must get the third. Soon. Tomorrow. Just became my goal :) Well, I’m off to finish my book before it finishes me. And maybe down a few GirlScout cookies from the 8 boxes I bought from my friend’s kid! *Groan*

Great poll! That was useful information for me, too. And congrats on being able to get PAN status–that means you’ll be able to sign up of for agent/editor appointments earlier !
Woohoo you!
Good poll! The story I read last noght was sooo bad I was laughing out loud and slapping my Dh’s shoulder. Why you ask?
1. We don’t need no stinkin plot! It was 99% sex.
2. The Big Misunderstanding. Through 99% of the story.
And if that weren’t enough, she had a Magic Hoohoo, that even though the Hero thought she was a prostitute (The Big Mis) he fell in Luurve via her Magic Hoohoo. It made him feel Spechul.
So, great poll. :)
OK. Wow, I my eyes just played a BiG trick on me!
I saw ‘baby’ in your title and then I saw the ticker…and then “I’m so excited”…
Can you guess where my mind went?
*ahem* sorry. Anyway, still happy dancing for you. Have fun at RWA. I hope to make it out there one of these years!
Hey Shelli, cool poll!
You go with the SciFi book. Wow, you’re almost at 80k, that’s fantastic. Keep going, you’re so close now…
:)
Have a great day!
I didn’t answer the poll because I have never read an erotic romance. Is that what I think it is? Someone will have to recommend something for a first-timer to read and I’ll give it a try.
Good going Shelli! Hope you hit your goal!
Me, I fixed corned beef and cabbage for the first time ever. My friend Ellie used to make it for us every year. . . however, two years ago, she was taken from us far too early (48 yo) — so, this year, we lifted a green beer to her memory.
P.S. The poll is interesting! Thanks for doing that — it’ll help us all!
As a writer of erotic romances, I tried to think of the novellas I have out there. The first one definately has that last bump and grind, because the hero and heroine thought they would never see each other again, then they were reunited, (and yes…it felt so good…) The second one, didn’t and the editor actually asked me to put one last one in ..for the road I guess. But out of all the ones in the story, she liked the last one the best. I’m now writing my third erotic romance and I haven’t decided. I probably will put a last hurrah in there, just because at the moment the hero and heroine each think the other has died, so I think I should put one in there. Honestly, I think it all depends on the story and the characters if it’s right or not.
Great question, Shelli. Definately food for thought.
-Kat (Romance Divas)
Lenora: Thank you! I totally hadn’t thought about that earlier editor/agent appt. GREAT news!
Eva: Oh my lanta, a magic hoo ha? EEK!
Kat: Eeek you’re not the first person to tell me that. I changed the title and took out baby, hopefully that helps! LOL!
Y: Thanks, Y! I plan on finishing today!
Uisce: An erotic romance is pretty much your normal romance, but a lot hotter and can explore the heroine learning more about her desires and fantasies.
Ericka: Sorry about your friend, that sure is young :( Congrats on making your first CB&C
Kat from Divas: Thanks for coming by!! I agree, my books have varied too. It really does depend on the book.
I had corn beef and cabbage for the first time, courtesy of my boyfriend. Not too bad actually. No beer for me though.
The poll was interesting, especially since it applied to all genre of romance. Good feedback.
And congrats again Shelli!
Interesting poll! I found it hard to answer, because sometimes I like that last passionate scene and sometimes I like something more tender…
I think probably I like the couple to make love at the end of the book, then in the final pargraphs of afterglow, slip into tender declaration mode.
Best of both worlds!
Hey Shelli,
I don’t read a lot of erotic romance anymore, and I don’t recall a last romp scene in “regular” romance that I’ve read.
That said, it really doesn’t matter for me. As long as there is a declaration of love and some assumption that they will have (both want) a future then they can as they wish at the end. ;)
Good luck with your sci-fi!
I didn’t vote because it really depends on the story for me. I didn’t have one in the tale I’m writing right now, but my editor wants one. I don’t really object, because it would be showing how really fantastic the sex is now that they’re married, so it wouldn’t be completely gratuitous. Plus, she’s an EC editor, for Pete’s sake. I’ll do what she tells me. LOL
I voted, but you didn’t have “It depends” LOL. Usually though, after a good black moment, and the h/h have made it all work out at the last minute, I’m ready to sigh and close the book. Give me all those good sex scenes before the black moment. That said…hmm, I think the novella I just sold has a love scene at the very end…oh well. Like I said. It depends. LOL
Great food for thought Shelli! I voted, but I’m with those who thought there should have been an “it depends” category. Sometimes it just isn’t right for the characters and the set up at the end of the story. I don’t like it when it seems as though it was just added for the heck of it. JMHO!
Hope you had a great weekend!
Antonia
I voted, Shelli. And…I’m so in awe that you can write full length. Any tips…feel free to email me. I’m great at novellas ;)
Oh well. Congrats also on your full length with Samhain. That’s awesome.
Your going to have so much fun at RWA. I wish I could go. I’ll be there next year. I can’t drive to SF. Congrats on the great progress with you current book!! You go girl.
Hey Shelli! I didn’t vote - not coz I don’t think the poll is valuable, because it is. Very much so. I guess it depends on the story for me as to whether a big finale (hehe) is needed. Sometimes the story calls for an ending that hints at one and the sweetness, romance and hint is enough for this reader. Sometimes, there’s more than enough sex in the story that one more scene is too much, and sometimes, the ending just calls for it.
I know, big pot of help I am :)
Hi Shelli, great poll!
I would say that as a reader a, ahem, satisfying ending doesn’t have to include a sex scene. I mean, I’m not averse to them and if it’s done well, woo hoo! I don’t think I’ve written one yet that has one, but if it served the story, I’d do it. :)
Way to go — stay excited! :)
I didn’t answer your poll but I wanted to here… I needed one more choice ;) I think it all depends on the story… I’ve gone all those ways, its just depended on the story.
Have a great week and good luck on finishing your story!
Cole
