So I think I hit a new point in my writing career today. Something’s been brewing the past few days that I was hesitant to talk about until I knew for sure. But I got an email from Sha Shana Crichton (agent), who I’d subbed to. The email said she wanted to call me. So the call didn’t actually happen until today, and I was on pins and needles the entire time. I had no clue which direction the conversation could go. But usually when an agent calls, these are what I was told the options are…

A. I’d like to show this to ___ (publisher) and I’d like to be your agent.
B. I’m interested in representing you for this project and all future projects
C. I love your voice, but there’s a few thing I feel you need to change to make this book work.

Guess which one it was for me? That’s right: C. I pretty much expected it. You see this book I wrote two years ago and was ready to shelve it once I got a rejection back. Only, she didn’t reject me, she called me. Ooooh the dilemma. So now I’m debating what to do. Rework a book that was written before I knew all the secrets on how to write a really good book? Or focus on the book I’m doing for NaNo, that I think is some of the best stuff I’ve written yet.

Regardless, Sha Shana said she’d like to look at any other completed books I have or that I may complete in the future. She’s a very sweet lady and had some great advice.

But until the end of the month my focus is Nano (hey I made a commitment!) and the book that’s stolen my heart :) Then I may make the changes in my vintage book. Or maybe finish up the Nano book, edit it, and then send that one.

It’s very thrilling though. To think I’ve sparked interest with a book that was written two years ago. What would happen if I subbed something fresh? That I wrote recently? Now that I know what deep POV is and other tricks.

So that’s where I’ve been the past few days! What have you been up to?

Picture of the day, I thought it was pretty appropriate with the democrats kicking booty in the elections! Can I get a heck yeah?! (Toning it down for the blog)

You’re on your way, girl! I have no doubt that NY is just around the corner.

    That t shirt is hilarious!!!

I’m so glad you’re loving your Nano project. I think you’re doing the right thing. Focus on it and make it the best you can.

I’m w/ Feisty - you ARE on your way!!!

    :)

Wow! That is awesome, Shelli! I mull over your options for a few days before you decide which one is right for you. I know I spent a lot of time revising a novel that an agent requested a revision on, and she ultimately passed on it. That novel is sitting on my harddrive and I doubt I’ll ever have it published mainly because I’m so sick of looking at it that I can’t even be objective about it anymore.

    Terrific! Good luck!

And, heck yeah on the other thing. LOL.

    OMG, I want that shirt!

Congrats on the call. I can’t imagine most agents would bother calling if they didn’t see something special.

I have a book like that, too though. A few years old. Good, but certainly not as good as the more recent stuff. And then it’ shard to decide what to do. Revise, which can be impossibly hard, or just write something new, not a piece of cake either.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

LOL on that shirt! There’s a reason why you don’t see shirts saying Republicans are sexy.

I’ll bet I could rake in the bucks with a shirt that says “Republicans used to be sexy before they hardened into fossils…” (I can do that because I’m a registered Republican. :D)

And remember, Shelli — you’re an author to watch out for. :D

    Go Shelli!

I totally agree with your decision. I’ve done the re-write thing and myself find it incredibly frustrating. I have yet to be successful at getting something older as good as my current stuff because with every project I learn sooooo much. It’s so cool that you’re passionate about your NaNo project and that above all else will show through in your work. :)

Oh Shelli, that’s wonderful! You need to deal with this whichever way you want to go… but it’s so cool that an agent showed an interest in your book! Good luck!

As for me, I’m still working on Nano and sold my first story to Cobblestone! YAY! So excited! :D

That is still awesome news!!! Congratulations. Good for you on going with your gut…sometimes that’s the only true thing we have.

That’s terrific! A phone call from an agent is definately something to shout about!!

Go with the book thats calling you for now. Congrats on hearing from that agent. She must have really liked what she saw to call you.

Way to go!!! How awesome! I’d be dancing around after that!

Shelli, i’m only a reader but when I heard from others saying that someone says no to a book, to take it on to others places…its like the book will fit with the right place for you. It will happen with that story cuz it wants to be told. Then I too I may have no clue cuz I only read the books, but I believe in you.
    Hugs

Congrat Shelli. I knew it was just a matter of time. Concentrate on the new book, send Tempting Adam, and fix Grounds for Arousal. You can do it!

    And I LOVE the shirt!
