Well, if you’re a news buff (like me!) You may have seen on the news that the Pacific Northwest (Seattle and all around!) is getting SLAMMED with a snowstorm. We are all snowbound. The schools are closed, the free ways a parking lot. Literally: the other night my uncle was coming home from work at 5pm, and didn’t get home until 1:15am. It’s usually an hour or so drive. The Seahawks kicked butt in their snow during their Monday Night Football game, one of my brother’s who was there and couldn’t get home afterwards. There’s like an inch thick of ice on the roads. It’s crazy out there. And I love it.

Yup, that’s right. I’m in hee haw heaven. We do not get snow. Maybe one token snowfall a year that melts by morning. But we’re going on day three of me opening my curtains in the am and seeing crusty (it’s iced over now) white snow everywhere. Emma and I have been sledding and building snowmen. Now I don’t have a 9-5 job in downtown, which I’m sure would make this hell, so I’m good to go. Granted I do grammasit twice a week, and I had to cancel. Plus I was going to get a manicure with Jacquie (to make our nails pretty before the book signing) and we postponed that too. But I don’t know, we’re due for another snow storm tonight. Yay!

So I officially gave up on NaNo. Actually it was about a week ago. I hadn’t planned on giving up, but I got a revise and resub letter from a non-Cobblestone Press publisher. So I focused my energy on that and sent it off. I suppose I could have started back up, but it was the holidays and I wanted a break. So I leave NaNo with 30k, but I’m cool with that. I’m thinking I’ll start back up again tonight with the NaNo book, because I really want to get it finished and subbed to NY. :)

I did have a creative streak the other day. I made soap. After paying $6.25 for a ducky soap at Bath and Bodyworks, I realized I could make the same darn thing myself. Not bad, eh?

Ok, I’m off to take a nap. The snow and sledding has done me in. *Yawn.* My funny pic of the day is just a pic, I promise that is not my own creation. Man, some people are just total perves *Rolling eyes* Have a good one!

I’m over at The Novelty Girls today! Visit me if you so desire :)

So, gag, I’m sorry I made you stare at the family history post for a few days. Wow, is it only Saturday? Is anyone getting that Sunday or Monday vibe? I’m so off on my days right now. Holidays do that to you. Man, it’s been awhile since I actually blogged. Did everyone have a good Thanksgiving?

Mine was pretty good. I had lots of family, and my friend and her hubby over too. I have to admit that one of the highlights was during the Dallas football game. All the men in my house were in complete horror of the halftime show. They couldn’t believe that some country singing American Idol (Carrie Underwood) was singing, and there was a line of dancing cowboys, and half naked men spinning on scarves and gazing into each others eyes. I won’t tell you all the phrases they were hurling at the television. But it did go something along the lines of, “What the f*ck is this?”

Okay, so now, in front of you all…I formally renounce my tradition of Day after Thanksgiving insanity shopping. I will no longer brave the malls, Target or drug stores at the ass crack of dawn. For it is indeed insanity, and absolutely not worth the few bucks you save. Besides, quite a few of the stores offer the deals online now! Although if you try to buy one of the featured items on Amazon at the ‘given time’ the site is frozen. So done with them too.

Oh! And I got another review for Tourist Attraction today (my first book!) It was a GREAT one.

“This is a short story done right! First-time-published Shelli Stevens will definitely have follow-up books! Be sure to look for her name after you read Tourist Attraction. The passion was hot and the love scenes were definitely erotic; however, the explicit sex did not undermine the beauty of this love story… I wholeheartedly recommend this story highly!” 5 hearts, Brenda Talley, The Romance Studio

All right, I think this has become an official blog post. I’ll post more when I have more to say :)

Here’s one of those things I should have put down as ‘5 things you don’t know about me’

Edward Rawson, the first secretary of the colonies, signed the first proclomation of Thanksgiving and he is my ancestor. (I lost my Rawson name when my great grandma got married.) The Rawson family is still big on the eastcoast and have reunions every year. If I lived over there I’m sure I’d go. But, sigh, I have yet to attend one.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! You can read the official proclomation below!

So here it is…

Great American Speeches

CHARLESTOWN, Mass., June 20, 1676 – The American tradition of Thanksgiving, first celebrated by our Pilgrim Fathers more than half a century ago, was proclaimed today in formal statement for the first time from the steps of the Council House.

It was on December 20, 1620, that Governor John Carver gathered around him the small band at Plymouth, to thank God in the midst of overwhelming adversities for the great gift of life itself, in the wilderness of the first colony.

Today a more secure people, through a meeting in council, issued a formal proclamation, declaimed by Edward Rawson, secretary, and ordered to be published in all the towns, for observance on June 29 by “Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God.”Lest too much credit be arrogated to ourselves for the idea, however, it should be recorded here that the idea of a “thanksgiving” is not original with this colony; it is indeed one of the reflections of the kindnesses of the Dutch who sheltered our fathers before the voyage to America. For it was the people of the Holland states who in 1597 held the first “Prayer of Thanksgiving,” to thank God for the victories by Prince Nassau over the armies of Spain.

Here is our first native proclamation of praise:
THE HOLY GOD having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgments he hath remembered mercy, having remembered his Footstool in the day of his sore displeasure against us for our sins, with many singular Intimations of his Fatherly Compassion, and regard; reserving many of our Towns from Desolation Threatened, and attempted by the Enemy, and giving us especially of late with our Confederates many signal Advantages against them, without such Disadvantage to our selves as formerly we have been sensible of, if it be the Lords mercy that we are not consumed.

It certainly bespeaks our positive Thankfulness, when our Enemies are in any measure disappointed or destroyed: and fearing the Lord should take notice under so many Intimations of his returning mercy, we should be found an Insensible people, as not standing before Him with Thanksgiving, as well as lading him with our Complaints in the time of pressing Afflictions:

The Council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th day of this instant June, as a day of Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his goodness and Favour, many Particulars of which mercy might be instanced, but we doubt not those who are sensible of Gods Affiictions, have been as diligent to espy him returning to us; and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering praise and thereby glorifying Him; the Council doth commend it to the Respective Ministers, Elders and people of this Jurisdiction; Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being perswaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and souls as a living and Acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ.

By the Council,Edward Rawson, Sect.

Sunday, November 19th 4pm eastern—CHRISTMAS WISHES

Okay, so I’ve officially dwindled in my word count for NaNo. Am I upset? No. Because I know I’m hitting a spot in the book where I’m about to take off. Where I can write 20 pages in a day and it feels like nothing. But even if I don’t hit the 50k mark in the next 12 days, then that’s all right. Because honestly I do better and write a better book when I’m not checking my word count every five minutes.

So anyone have any big plans this weekend? I sure don’t, besides the chat tomorrow, I have no plans. Nada. Could my life be anymore boring please? But I’m so looking forward to post Thanksgiving shopping and holiday kick off. YES!!!

So I just found out I’m probably doing a signing with some Highland Press authors. I’ll be signing the Christmas Wishes book at the Borders in Alderwood Mall, sometime in December (we’re thinking the 16th.) So wow, my first signing. I need a new shirt. I’m a little… *keeling over in a dead faint* nervous about it, but I think I’ll be fine.

So two nights ago I wrote almost 4k of my NaNo book. Lacy and I had a write off. Last night I didn’t even break 1k. But I blame myself for getting into a chat room with 5 hyper romance authors.

I’m over at The Novelty Girls today. Come by if you want. Or just watch this.

Woo whoo! It’s Emma’s birthday! My little munchkin turned 3 today. Lot’s of pizza, presents and Thomas the Train cake ensued. It was a blast and Emma had a great time. She fell asleep at 5:30. LOL. I’m telling you, we have a lifetime supply of tea sets, trains, my little ponies, and everything Little Mermaid related. And Emma is in heaven! Here I am holding her still for two second for a photo opp. Doesn’t she just look like she’s ready to jump off my lap?

Okay, so last night I did manage to get about 1k done in my Nano book, not as much as I’d hoped, but I broke the 20k mark. And now that the week long partying has ended, I think I should be able to get back on track. Wish me luck. Because after I finish this NaNo project I definitely plan on revising Grounds for Arousal and sending it to Sha Shana. And I may send her my other book that’s hanging around that I haven’t really sent out yet.

So we’re having some ‘bad’ weather here. Only I don’t think it’s bad, I love it. We’re having some really heavy rain that’s causing a lot of flooding, and wind storms. If I lived near a river where it could hurt my property, or even become dangerous, I’d probably not like it so much. But where I am there’s no danger of flooding. So I love to leave my window open a crack (helps with the hot flashes too;) and listen to the wind and rain while I type, then when I go to bed as well. Maybe that makes me nutty, but then I never claimed not to be.

Okay, so i’m off to write now! I must, I must, I must increase my NaNo. Come on, you didn’t think I was going to say bust did you? I’m appalled!

Okay this pic of the day isn’t any kid I know, but went well with the kid theme :)

I woke up to an email this morning from Amie Stuart. She was pointing out the results of an online poll at All About Romance (AAR Mini Polls) They had three different categories. Top Ten Mainstream Sexy Titles, Top Ten Erotic Romance Titles, and Top Ten E-Book Titles. I think some of you must have voted for me, since I took 4th place in the ebook titles! So thanks and big hugs!

And I was doubly excited when I saw this, “AAR readers voted for 390 different titles by 189 different authors. All but one of the titles in the top ten (Tourist Attraction by Shelli Stevens, published by Cobblestone Press) were published by Ellora’s Cave. ” Here’s the link if you wanna check out some of the winners in each category AAR Poll.

So let me try and some up how badly I’ve been sucking at NaNo the past few days. I mean, technically, I THINK I’m still on course. I’m at 19k. But the past two days I got maybe 1k done combined. Not good when my average should be just under 2k daily. *Sigh* It’s the parties. I had a bridal shower last night, a birthday party the night before, one tomorrow and by the time I roll into bed at night I’m too sleepy to write. Oh, and I thoroughly blame Crystal and Shawn for calling me and keeping me on the phone for an hour. :)

All right. Off to clean and stuf. Maybe get some writing done later.

Here’s my pic of the day. Looks like somebody just discovered girls.
