Okay, truly I had a pretty cool post today. And blogger just ate it and belched it back out to taunt me. So, let’s start fresh. Shall we? Just understand that this one will be a little suckier.
Sooo I’ve sent off three partials today, and as Shelley says.. I now have Hope in the Mail. I have a great critique group that gave me some fabulous tips. I know a lot of people don’t care much for critique groups, but they can really find a lot of cool stuff you’re missing. And I love the fact that they’ll be my Beta Readers. I love that term, learned it in Atlanta.
I flubbed a bit today. I was all pumped up after having watched Super Nanny last night, deciding I was going to be a better mom. And then Emma started to get a little out of control this morning, as toddlers tend to do. So I muttered under my breath–well I thought it was under my breath–”Emma, you’re pissing mommy off.” And then she says in her singsong voice, “Mommy, you’re pissing me off.” Sooo… yeah, no comments like that unless they’re in my head. But even then, the chit can probably read minds.
So before I sent the stuff off to NY and Colorado (can you guess which agent that one went to?) I had to stuff the envelopes. See, lately I’d gotten to the point where I would print up the agent/editor and my return address on labels and slap them on the envelope. But I ran out of labels and figured I’d try and write them in this time. So I grabbed my blue Sharpie and went at it. Halfway through I realized it looked like my toddler was writing it. So I crinkled up the envelopes, put Emma in the car, and then drove to the store to buy some address labels. And when I sent the partials off, they were awfully pretty. So how do you do the envelope thing? Do you have good enough handwriting to get away with it? Or are you a label person too?
So isn’t this a great pic? It’s a chalk drawing on the sidewalk.

AHAHAHAHAHAAH!
Ugh, Shelli! That pic freaked me out!
:o)
Very cool pic! Imagine working on the drawing all day and then it takes a short time to destroy, like rain or people walking on it.
Emma is not only cute but smart! ;-)
Paz
Kids I swear…LOL
I do labels too!
You mean you’re not supposed to tell them they’re pissing you off? Wow. I’m a slacker mom. Right, we knew that.
That picture is sooooo cool. Love these pictures.
I only just started doing labels, especially good if you are making the rounds to the same agents you queried with the last lot of work you had. Hehe. But before I tried labels, I wrote by hand or got my husband to write it - I hate my penmanship.
Your picture made me stare, and stare, and stare…
Trippy!
I label and hand write - but I have scrapped some envelopes before cos of hideous writing on my part. So usually I stick to labels.
Ha…that is something my kids would do. The worst is when they say that sort of shit in front of my inlaws, UGH.
I handwrite my labels mostly because I seem to be forever out of ink. It couldn’t be all the coloring pages the monkeys print out in a non-stop stream, hehe.
Great pic!
Good luck on the partials. I have a few out, too…I hate the waiting!
Congrats on getting those partials out. Fingers crosed for you!
That is an awesome pic!
Cool picture! Best of luck on those partials. I usually just print the envelope in my printer from MS word. It works pretty good most of the time, unless the printer decides to eat it, or some chick that goes by the name of Mia puts the darn thing in upside down.
Good Luck on the partials! And you know, you have to send them out to sell them so congrats on doing that.
And I’ve been surprised over the years at the things my kids repeat, LOL.
Definitely a label person. I used to have decent handwriting, but that was before I started using computers every single day. But when I do labels, I try to fancy ‘em up - cursive fonts, colors, etc.
WTG on sending out those partials!
I havent sent anything out in the mail yet!! I’m slowly working up to that.
Crazy picture.
Labels… If I relied on someone reading my chicken scratch, it would probably end up half way around the world.
That picture totally screwed with me!
Congrats on getting those partials out. As Lauren says, you can’t sell them if you don’t send them!
I handwrite all my envelopes, mainly because it takes me twice as long to get the labels printing right. Good luck!
Loved today’s picture.
I had to stare at that pic for a while.. I can’t believe it is chalk on a sidewalk! What great depth!
I know I am not a writer.. but from a professional standpoint I would definately do the labels.
Congratulations on getting them in the mail!!
