Holy heck, it’s promo week! Okay. So… what I do now? Well, one thing that’s going on is Cobblestone Press is being hosted at The Pink Posse yahoo group all week! The three stooges (as Deanna and Sable have begun to call us) Loribelle, Sara and I, are going to be chatting on the yahoo loop all day tomorrow answering questions, holding contests, and give peeks and info at our books! So check it out if you’d like. To subscribe to the group just send an email to thepinkposse-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Other than that I’m not sure how to promo. Besides screaming at the topping of my lungs “Please, oh please buy my book!” But no one can hear me since we’re online. And my neighbors already think I’m a nuts. Oh, I do have a contest on my site that ends on Wed! http://www.shellistevens.com/funstuff.htm
Okay, now onto the juicy stuff. I’m desperately trying to figure out how to potty train Emma. Okay, not desperately, because my lanta it takes a lot of energy. But I have been showing her videos like “Potty Power” and “No More Diapers” and she thinks they’re great, but it does nothing to motivate her to tinkle in the potty. I read books, we sit side by side on our toilets, but nothing. She did however want to wipe her bottom today, even though she didn’t do anything. That’s my daughter, always wanting to skip ahead to the next level.
I did buy Care Bear stickers today as bribery and so far haven’t broken down and given them to her. And she really wants them. She runs to the potty and sits down. For like 30 seconds, and then she’s up again.
How did you guys do it? Is there an easy way to get your kid out of diapers?

I blogged about potty training when I first started blogging! I got pretty frustrated w/ my daughter and finally told her one morning “We are going on the potty ALL DAY.” She looked at me and said, “All day?” “Yep, ALL DAY.”
And we did. I took her in the bathroom every 15 minutes and asked if she needed to go. It was a freakin’ nightmare. She peed in her panties, peed on the floor, finally peed in the toilet, and when I put her in a diaper for nighttime, she yelled, “Yea! My diaper!” And promptly peed.
But the next morning she snuck off to her potty and went. And kept doing it - all day long. It took a day! Really! An intense day, and believe me she’s still not perfect, she has the occasional accident, but it worked.
Just stick to it, if you can. I called it potty training bootcamp. I stayed home for days and focused solely on it.
Ok, I’ve rambled on enough. Good luck on your promoting and have fun at the Pink Posse!
Oh you rock, Karen! See that’s what I figured i’d have to do. It just seems like such a time investment. But I’ll do it. I will!
Oh yeh that it! I’ve yet to catch my little one to potty but she does go there and sit for a while and ‘wipes’ but then once she’s off she’ll let it go. I’ve given up nappies all together for day time and let her run around in panties. I take her to the toilet as often as I can and still haven’t managed getting her to do it. But I’ll persevere. Dang it’s hard!
Have you tried taking her shopping for cute panties? That is a fun and motivating way to do it. If she wants to wear her pink flowery butterfly panties she needs to go potty in the toilet and not wear diapers.
I have no potty training words of wisdom. I struggle with my *gulp* four year old. He still pees and poops in his pullup. *Sigh*. Bribery didn’t work with him. Neither did leaving him in underwear (or buying Spiderman underwear) so, I’m just biding my time with him. Dell (my five year old) did well with reward. He wanted to be potty trained. Paul is just stubborn.
I think the worst thing to do is make it a power struggle. Paul is starting to poop and pee in the potty but it’s inconsistent.
As far as promotion, you’re doing just fine. You’re a member of lots of online forums that will pass the word along. RD, Romancing the Blog and others will get the word out to readers. And Online readers are the ones more likely to buy an ebook.
Did you see I won “Bound By Love”? I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I’m thrilled.
Ok, I’m in the exact spot you are. Mckenzie will sit on the potty and loves to wipe but she is afraid to actually pee on it. She know when she has to go and know how to hold it. If I sit her on the potty when she needs to go, she will hold it and then go as soon as I let her up. She is afraid to go on it. I have the video Potty Power too. She like to watch it but it doesnt make her to. I talked to a friend and she said her daughter did the same thing Mckenzie is doing. So, she got a jar and filled it with skittles. She left them in the bathroom and her daughter could only have them when she sat on the potty. She would bring her in when she had to go and get the jar down but only let her have one skittle at a time. She said her daughter would be so into eating the skittles and they take a while to chew so she would forget to hold her pee and end up going. I havent tried it yet, but that is my next step. Good Luck.
LOL! I don’t have kids so I can’t relate to this at all!
But it’s nice to know what I’m in for someday!!!
This is why I have cats.
Good luck with the potty training, we started when my daughter was almost three, and it took darn near six months.
She got down the whole “pee pee” part, but she wouldn’t poop. In fact, she was so stubborn about it, she made herself literally sick with constipation, and would throw up everything she ate.
Finally, though, what managed to get her over it was to be around other kids who used the potty. And a couple of kids saying she was a baby because she wore “diaper” (pull ups.) Now she’s a pro.
And when she poops, she always yells “Mommy, come look, this is hysterical!”
